Moti Wesaw led a village of Potawatomi in the Dowagiac, Decatur area of Michigan. after the 1821 Treaty of Chicago, he moved his village to Niles, MI & married a daughter of Topinabee. Moti was involved in many treaties for his people. Moti was known as a local celebrity in Niles, whenever he would come to town, everyone would come watch him enter. In 1835 while breaking up a fight in Downtown NIles, he was accidentally shot & killed by his own son.
