in Potawatomi there are 4 types of verbs
Verb Type 1 - VII (Verb Inanimate Intransitive)
- this verb type is used to describe inanimate objects or things happening that do not have people involved
- examples include gméya – it is raining, té – it is there, gzhaté – it is hot weather, nokya – it is soft
Verb Type 2 - VAI (Verb Animate Intransitive)
- this verb type is used to describe animate beings in action but not interacting with anything or anyone
- examples include bmosé – h/s walks, tkozé – h/s is short, mishzé – h/s is furry, yékwzé – h/s is tired
Verb Type 3 - VTI (Verb Transitive Inanimate)
- this verb type is used to describe animate beings interacting with inanimate objects
